Do I have to give a prize to every child at a Halloween party?
I’m having a Halloween party for my 2 year old and his little friends and bought a little prize for every child (just prizes from places like Target) but was just wondering if I had to give every child a prize. I was going to make up prizes for different Halloween costume parties. I just feel bad at this age b/c they are little and don’t want anyone to feel left out.
I alse have a treat bag for every kid, etc… I was going to give certificates and then a prize for things like Best Superhero, Best Overall, Silliest costume, etc…
I’m not looking to have them compete. I was going to make up stuff and just randomly give out a prize. I know the parents are the ones that choose, obviously a 2 year old can’t go and get something or really won’t say anything.

Perhaps you could make up certificates ahead of time, such as "Scariest", "Most original", etc and give everyone a certificate and let them each pick out a prize. At two years old, yeah everyone needs a prize!
I would give them all a prize, you know how they get at their age, someone gets something and they all want one lol (:
Just buy some cheap candy or something to keep them all happy!
How about not having games in which there are winners and losers? I bought a book called "Games Everybody Wins" for my grandson’s Halloween party. It has a lot of great ideas. We played about four games from the book, and the kids had a great time.
Also, I prepared treat bags for each child, and gave each child a special Halloween sippy cup, so everybody left with something.
Just don’t give prizes to the white kids. They go through life with an advantage anyway, give the minorities something for once. They’re the ones that are going to grow up with racial slurs and insults from people.
Well you should give them like a bag if candy or a webkinz
give them a remembrance (a object,something for kids like a toy or what), then the prize should be different, much bigger than the remembrance
Yes – you should give a prize to every child – even if you are doing treat bags. You should have a certificate for each one, even if you have to get creative (and by the way, at 2, no one should have a "scary" costume. If anything as to not frighten the other children). You may even have to come up with things like "Best Animal Costume" "Best Princess Costume" even though there is only one princess or animal.
Besides, lets face it – it’s the parents that did (or did not) come up with a cool costume, not the kids.
At that age every child should go home with nearly the same things, so it’s all or nothing.
You will save yourself A LOT of drama!!
Well, its actually the parents who are picking out the costumes for the kids since they are 2…and if you choose one kid over another, the parents might actually get offended (sad but true, i’ve seen it happen before). So, I’d plan to give all or no kids prizes so the parents don’t throw fits.
I think a treat bag is good for all you should not give prizes they are 2 years old and may think that their costume was not good enough or feel unimportant
I would. No party is fun for a 2-yr-old if someone got something and they did not.
The kids who would win standard costume contests are the ones whose parents put together their costume. My kids once both went as "army pirates". The original idea was to have one of them being an army man, and the other a pirate, but on the way to the party, they swapped out parts of the costumes, so our army man had a pirate hat and an eye patch, and our pirate had an army helmet and a camoflauge walkie-talkie. Their costumes were odd, to say the least, but they were so proud of them, because they were THEIRS. I would not have appreciated someone throwing a party and giving a child whose parent picked out the most expensive Cinderella costume and put makeup on their preschooler a prize, when my kids, whose creativity was clear in their choice of costumes, did not get a prize.
I would suggest having a contest where everyone wins something. For your costume contest, have a catagory for each kid there. The funniest, the silliest, the prettiest (COSTUME, not kid), the best super-hero, the best princess, the best animal, whatever. Let every child win.
Two-year-olds don’t usually "get" the idea of competition, and are not good sports when they don’t get something and someone else does. At a party is not the place to teach them that lesson.
