Do you limit your kids costume choices for halloween?

Like i know some people don’t like boys in blood or weapons — or the girls in skimpy things.

I would personally not allow the weapons but hub thinks it’s sooo cool.

So what about you guys.. what are your halloween costume limitations?
Yea, I am not for all the gore… hub is .. so this one we kinda go half and half on.

I have gotten so lucky on this subject… being a household of mostly girls we are all into looking pretty, beautiful or cute for Halloween. And so far my little boy is all about Superhero’s.

The way "we" think… for us Halloween is about dressing up as something you dream of, or aspire to be, or something you love. My husband and I never laid those ground rules… but this is how it has turned out for us. I will be shocked the day one of my children tells me they want to be a witch or a masked murderer. <LOL>

    no, Hitler

  • Gezo:

Why? They can choose their own costumes
My son is wearing a full Gore-Demon costume, and he actually got real blood! It is so sick! And my daughter is being sexy tinkerbell, its so hot!
Im glad I actually raise my kids right and let them choose the right things. My younger son is being Hitler, is so funny!

its freaking Halloween, a pagan holladay about demons and killing people. you decide

  • ?Sugar Bear?:

Halloween should be scary but in a fun way. I say let them have the toys just for the night

  • TESSIE LOVE:

i will not let my little girl were revealing stuff, other than that pretty much everything goes. as long as it stays in budget

At our house they are not allowed to be anything scary. I realize that some people get really into it and that is fine, we just choose to keep it as clean as possible for our family. No zombies, witches, vampires around here!

My son is going to be a U.S. Marine this year. We are ok with weapons as long as they are for a realistic reason, not just for pretending to kill random things like monsters or a being Jason walking around with a fake machete.

    Each to their own!

Knowing like some people is an ace idea

  • pdooma:

    Yes.

He’s 3.5. Sometimes he comes up with crazy, not do-able ideas. I KNOW you want to be x but there’s no way you’d be able to walk in it.

Also, I don’t do gore. I’ve seen enough in real life, my child doesn’t need to glorify it. I realize it’s Halloween but it’s one of my personal issues and that’s it. Anyway, a 3.5 year old doesn’t need to wear that anyway.

So that’s what he’s limited to at this point.

We haven’t really run up against that yet. But that’s an interesting thought. I’m sure we will have some guidelines and rules as they get older, but then again, we won’t allow them to trick-or-treat after they turn 12 or get out of elementary school, whichever comes first. Currently my oldest is only 6, so we have a few more years. If it were up to DH, we wouldn’t let them do Halloween at all, he hates the whole thing.

Usually not, but this yr I had a hard time finding anything for a preteen that wasn’t sexy. The news even did a piece on the sexy costumes for little girls today. We finally went with a fairy costume with leggings and a long sleeved T-shirt under neath.

No, but I watch them guide their kids thru it!
