Is it disrespectful to dress up like michael jackson on halloween?

I was asking a question about how to make my MJ costume look more creative w/o spending too much but this guy answered but he didn’t answer any of my questions and he was being totally rude..he said that i was being "disrespectful" for dressing up like MJ for halloween since he’s dead and i was wondering and now i feel kinda guilty b/c i’m not trying to disrespect him and i don’t want to others to think so too…now im kinda feeling i should be catwomen again :/
thanks i feel better about it now…i’m going to try to make my look inspired by the "the way you makin me feel" music video…thats basic and shouldn’t cost much. plus im going to post a pic of my outfit up :D

No.. I think Michael Jackson’s fine. It could be honoring him. It’s only making fun of him if you actually DO make fun of him.
Buttt, people may think you are. If you do it on Halloween as if he’s SCARy..but hey. I like the idea.

I can help w/ your question if you want. The other one.
I’d make your face REALLY white with baby powder or light colored powder. Get a wig if possible. Depending on your hair..
if you can just make it like his. And if youuu can get some temporary colored hair spray and make it black if your hair isn’t black already.

    Line your eyes in black.
Dress like him. I don’t really know how he dressed because I never really listened to him much but I’msure Google would give you an idea. :]

And you could have an Ipod or osmething full of Michael Jackson songs. That way people would know you aren’t trying to make fun of him or disrespect him.
And take headphones or earplugs just don’t keep the volume up the whole time.
    Also it’s different.

You could even add little angel wings :) If you wanted. That’d make it unique.

I hope this helped you get an idea. :)
    I have a costume problem too. ?
I’d love it if you helped I’d really appreciate it. This is pretty last minute for me, haha

There’s nothing wrong with it. People dress up as Marilyn Monroe, what’s the difference?

  • McKinney:

Why should it be disrespectful? It’s not like you’re insulting him. I think it’s a good idea if you ask me. Just don’t hang toddlers from your outfit and you’ll be A-OK

lol my husband’s friend has a MJ mask and he was wondering the same thing. He was wanting to wear on halloween but hes not sure if it would be disrespectful and too soon.

  • Sharkey:

    No
    He’s actually quiet scary.
My little sister cried when i showed a poster of him to her.
But I wouldn’t dress up as him. you probs aren’t scary enough to pull it off

Well, if you dressed up as Michael Jackson and took your sons trick-or-treating, it might look ironically disrespectful, but since people dress up like celebrities for Halloween all the time, and Michael is such a classic star, I personally don’t see a problem with it. It’s a tribute to his memory and fame.

  • brokenmasochist:

i don’t think its disrespectful, but i do think A LOT of people are going to be dressed up as him this year.

  • Nate the Great:

I dressed as MJ in school today…my teachers loved it. I thought it was fun and not disrespectful, as long as you don’t insult him.
